Yorkshire Society Unveil 2016 Award Winners

The Yorkshire Society Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony took place at the Hilton Leeds City this month.

Four new award categories were introduced this year and included the presentation of certificates to three members of the Combined Cadet Force from schools across Yorkshire. The winners were nominated by their Commanding Officers for outstanding commitment to their units.

The Right Reverend Nick Baines, Bishop of Leeds , entertained guests, giving a very entertaining speech titled The Spy Who Came Into the Fold, which charted his path from GCHQ to ordination.

Winners, who were presented with their awards by the Society President, Lord St Oswald, were:

Business of the Year – I’m From Yorkshire

Diversity in the Community – Leeds Trinity University

Arts and Culture – Beth Moxon, Mezzo Soprano

Media – Margaret Emsley, Editor of Calendar

Charity – Dr Kate Granger for raising over £200,00 for Yorkshire Cancer Centre and initiating the HelloMyName Is campaign across the NHS

Tourism – Wensleydale Railway

Young Entrepreneur – Bow Baskets

Regeneration – Keep Moat
