Wakefield Works Back On The Road for 2017

Wakefield Works, the campaign to boost the employability and skills of local people, is back and is appealing for local businesses to get involved by offering advice, guidance, sector insight or job opportunities as part of a district-wide roadshow.

On Tuesday 20th June, in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, Wakefield Works will embark on a four-day tour of the district, visiting Pontefract (20th), Wakefield (21st), Hemsworth (22nd) and Castleford (23rd) Jobcentres giving businesses the chance to offer invaluable help and support to jobseekers.

Andy Turner, Co-founder of Wakefield Works comments: “2016 was our best year yet for Wakefield Works; taking to the road helped us to support more people than ever before with 1,240 customers welcomed as part of our campaign.

“But, we can do more. The more businesses that we involve the greater the opportunities and advice for young people.

“Business representatives don’t have to attend every event, or even a full day. We’re simply asking employers to spare a few hours to provide advice. If employers have specific vacancies, they can also showcase and interview for these positions there and then!

“We would encourage any business to get involved, all support is invaluable and the effort made could change the life of a young person seeking their next job opportunity.”

Companies can support the programme by joining the tour for a few hours, at a specific tour location or for the full four-day event. Here they can speak to young people; offering career advice, an insight into their sector or to detail specific job, apprentice and work experience opportunities. Interested organisations must register their interest by Wednesday 31st May by visiting www.wakefieldworks.co.uk.
