Snow Joke as Sledging Comes to Wakefield

Around 50 tonnes of real snow recently descended on Wakefield for families to sledge down.

Trinity Walk shopping centre in Wakefield teamed-up with Snozone at Xscape Yorkshire to create the real snow sledging run for families to enjoy for free.

A free snowboard simulator also arrived with families taking on each other to see who could stay on the longest.Lucy Grice, Marketing Manager at Trinity Walk, said: “It was brilliant to see shoppers just stopping and taking pictures as we started piling the snow up – it’s not something you expect to see in the middle of summer in Wakefield. Two hours and three massive truck-loads later we had a queue of kids ready to sledge and they just kept on coming. Seeing the smiles on their faces and the parents’ pride when even the youngest flew down the hill was just brilliant and a great start to the holidays.

“It’s easy to do something simple, but much more fun doing something unusual and interesting for families to enjoy for free during the kids’ holidays.”The snow was one of several free events taking place at the centre including a Guinness World Record attempt with Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice to create the largest gathering of people dressed as a princess. People just need to wear a long dress and crown or tiara at the event which starts at 12pm on Sunday August 6.
