PR Firm Sacrifices its Sweet Tooth for Trussell Trust

Wakefield PR agency, Carmel Harrison PR, is sacrificing its sweet tooth in the run up to Christmas in support of those in need and is calling on other businesses to do the same.

Carmel Harrison, whose PR business is based in Unity Works, is leading her team’s efforts to give up chocolate for a month and use the money they save to buy Christmas selection boxes for the Trussell Trust to distribute to families in need through their local foodbanks.

The team is appealing to other businesses to join in their fasting period and also donate selection boxes to help brighten up the Christmas period for youngsters.

This isn’t the first year Carmel has supported charity in this way. Previously her pre-Christmas chocolate fast took place in November and last year resulted in more than 200 advent calendars being donated to the Trussell Trust thanks to the support for the venture from other local organisations.

Carmel Harrison, Grace Franklin and Nikki Henshaw prepare to give up chocolate for charity.

The calendars were distributed via the Trussell Trust’s foodbanks in Normanton and Pontefract and this year Carmel is determined to smash last year’s 200+ total by collecting more selection boxes to help bring some festive spirit to people who are facing a bleaker Christmas than most.

“More than 13 million people face hunger in the UK every day and the Trussell Trust does magnificent work to ensure many enjoy a nutritious meal. They will be doing their best to ensure people don’t go hungry at Christmas but we can help them provide that extra little something to enable children in particular aren’t missing out completely on the sweet treats that so many of us take for granted,” said Carmel.

The deadline for donated selection boxes is December 8. They can be left with a verger at Wakefield Cathedral or, if you require them collecting, please contact Carmel Harrison PR via
