The Yorkshire Society was launched in 1980 to promote everything which is good about the County of Yorkshire. HRH The Duke of York became our Royal Patron in 2004. The Society’s President is Lord St Oswald and he is supported by a number of distinguished Yorkshire men and women who are Vice Presidents.
One of the main activities undertaken by the Society is the promotion of Yorkshire Day on the 1st August and the ceremony is hosted by a different City and Town throughout the County each year. Every Civic Head is invited to attend the celebrations and we understand it is the largest gathering of Civic Heads meeting in one place on one day anywhere in the World. Yorkshire being the largest county in the UK and ‘God’s own County’.
