Atom Consultants are a multi-disciplined, owner-operated Consulting Engineering & Project Management Practice based in Edinburgh, Dornoch, Leeds and Canterbury. Originally as James Lupton Consultants, Thomson & Partners and BSF, we were established in 1995 and have grown to become the leading Food Factory Designer who’s designed over 80% of the salmon production facilities in Scotland. This has led to the company being able to offer a full package of Total Project Management®, specialised in Architectural production layout design and spatial planning, Production Analysis, Civil & Structural, M&E Engineering and Building Consultancy services tailored to suit a Client’s needs and importantly to achieve Major Retailer Technical Approval and industry wide standards such as BRC, EFSIS and SALSA accreditation. We can also provide Production Optimisation and Dynamic Analysis of existing production and manufacturing facilities to support business cases. Furthermore, we have a 98% success rate in helping food manufacturers to obtain funding for their building expansions/modifications, making that dream of our client’s a lot more tangible. Our approach is always client-led. We let our clients’ requirements to become the key drivers of their projects, so that the final deliverable is as close to their original vision as possible.
We also have over 20 years of in-depth experience in Building Information Modelling, having been the 1st and only consultancy in Yorkshire to implement BIM in 1996 and digitalise all our technical services. The legacy of our work so far has left its mark everywhere from Orkney to Dubai. Our local projects include Pinderfields and Dewsbury Hospitals and Xscape in Castleford. We are Planners, Engineers, Consultants and Technical Specialists, solving problems every day and coming up with ground breaking solutions for a better world: from developing a sustainable modular school standard BBi600 which set a new benchmark for modular school design to designing (with millimeter precision) one of the largest pre-fabricated modular service risers in the country at Imperial College London.
Always at the forefront of technical advancements, we are also the home of the only CAA accredited flying structural engineer in the UK. Our sister unit, Atom Aerial, implements unmanned aerial data capture as a viable alternative to more costly methods of site and inaccessible area surveys. Output data includes photogrammetry, 3D modelling and aerial surveys, with emphasis of data collection, which when integrated into BIM allows for full 3D interaction between the design proposals and the existing facilities. Our in-house video editing service delivers not only raw imagery, but can create a full cinematic vision of your asset from an angle which you perhaps never even imagined before.
Last and not least, we employ local people and never outsource our work to developing nations. We believe that everyone deserves to be paid fairly for the work they’ve done. Sustainability and ethicality are at the heart of everything we do. And last but not least. Nothing beats the years and years of industry experience, which we have plenty of.
