The Art House has appointed Shân Edwards as Chief Executive/Artistic Director to lead the organisation in its next phase of development following the opening of its extended studio and display facilities in Wakefield.
Shân is currently Director of Celf o Gwmpas in Llandrindod Wells with responsibility for providing vision, strategic and artistic development and long-term sustainability. In her role, she has pioneered projects, exhibitions and residencies that open up opportunities for disabled artists, develops artistic practice and presentation and creates the connections for equality. Shân is also an Arts Council of Wales’ National Adviser and a trustee of Powys Arts Forum where she has been a key contributor to Creative Powys, a six year programme of support and intervention for the arts and creative industries in Powys.
Shân was born in Aberystwyth and studied Fine Art at the University of the West of England, Bristol. In her career, she has held progressively senior roles in contemporary art gallery Camden Arts Centre, national and international touring theatre company Complicite in London, and studio complex West Barns Arts in Scotland.
Shân is committed to supporting artists to be inspired by, explore, produce and reflect upon contemporary art practice. “I am delighted to be offered the opportunity to lead The Art House at this exciting time for the organisation.”
