Member Spotlight – The Car Buying Group

This month we caught up with The Car Buying Group to find out more about the online car purchasing business.

1. Summarise your business in a couple of sentences

Based in Wakefield, we are the fastest growing online car purchasing website in the UK. Established in 2014, we have a fantastic track record for continual growth, scalability and dedication to customer service. Over the past four years, we have received widespread recognition for impressive expansion, including being named in the top three fastest growing tech companies in the North on the Northern Tech 100 list this year, having scooped the top title in 2017. We recently won TheBusinessDesk.com’s Yorkshire Business Masters award for fast growth and Tom Marley, The Car Buying Group CEO scooped scale-up entrepreneur of the year in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards for the North in 2017.

2. Can you showcase your offering, including an example of a recent project/initiative?

Tom Marley, established the award-winning business after identifying a gap in the market. He set out to disrupt the car buying industry by taking the convenience and ease of online car selling to the next level by creating an effortless buying process for customers through doorstep collection and payment. The Car Buying Group has created a solution to car-sales, offering the highest level of customer service for the consumer in an industry that previously held a poor reputation.

3. How long have you worked/been based in the Wakefield District?

Three years.

4. Why the Wakefield District?

There’s a wealth of talent in Wakefield and we’ve had great success in building our team here. Our employees are hardworking, passionate and ambitious and we wouldn’t be an award-winning business without them. Being positioned here also means we can access people and businesses from across the Yorkshire region. Wakefield has great transport links with two motorways on the doorstep, London only two hours on the train, and Leeds and Sheffield in less than an hour away.

5. Why did you become a Bondholder?

We became a Bondholder because we’re keen to showcase Wakefield’s talent. We’re passionate about supporting both our team members and the local area and proudly champion Wakefield on a national and international level.

6. What’s next for the Wakefield District?

Wakefield is on the up with more jobs being created and more businesses setting up and experiencing rapid growth. We’re looking to employ another 30 people by the end of this year which alone is a huge number of jobs for the local area.

7. Do you know an interesting fact about the District?

The nursery rhyme ‘The grand old Duke of York’ originates here from 1460 when the Duke of York was killed in the Battle of Wakefield.
