Leeds Beckett University Unveils New Business Centre in Wakefield

A new initiative from Leeds Beckett University, Wakefield Council and Wakefield College, which aims to boost early-stage and growing businesses in the region opened its doors for the first time at a launch event on 10th January.

The new Business Centres are located at Bond Terrace and on site with Wakefield College in the heart of Wakefield. Both sites offer affordable office services and meeting spaces to early-stage and growing businesses, as well as access to professional business lounges and meeting facilities across Wakefield at Wakefield One.

A wide range of support is included, including Leeds Beckett business advice and mentoring, professional training and development, and access to research expertise. The Grade II listed Bond Terrace facility is also the first multiple gigabit bandwidth building in Wakefield.

Gail Cherry, University Business Centre Coordinator for Wakefield, said ‘’Support from Leeds Beckett has been proven to almost double business sustainability, with a 95% business survival rate in the first year of trading.’’

The Business Centre allows clients access to a Wakefield city centre-registered business address and private, newly-renovated office space – including three co-working suites, 11 offices, and meeting room, hot-desk and virtual office facilities. Clients also receive free access to Leeds Beckett’s network of business lounges, which are shared with specialist member organisations, and special offers for membership with Mid-Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce.

The Business Centre at Bond Terrace and its sister site at Wakefield College are part of a network of Leeds Beckett University Business Centres that have been operating for more than 15 years. More than 200 businesses across the region are currently located in Leeds Beckett’s private, shared and co-working spaces which to date have supported over 800 businesses to accelerate their growth.
