Fundraising continues as audiences sneak a peek at Theatre Royal Wakefield’s new Centre For Creativity

Audiences were treated to a sneak peek inside Theatre Royal Wakefield’s new Centre for Creativity over the May bank holiday weekend when the first performances took place inside the Walker Studio.

The Centre for Creativity, which has been built on the side of the existing Matcham theatre on Westgate, features a versatile studio theatre along with a new café/bar area.

In On The Act, Theatre Royal Wakefield’s innovative 18 – 30 year old group of theatre makers, performed a hugely successful modern re-telling of the classic tale Thumbelina in the Walker Studio which sold out over 6 performances.

Young theatre-goers joined in the fun with face painting, colouring activities and free cupcakes as the first test event for the theatre’s long awaited new space took place.

‘We had a fantastic weekend with very busy houses for Thumbelina in the new Walker Studio. It was lovely to see so many children having fun and joining in with our family friendly activities. This event was the first time that the public got to see inside our new space and we are now hoping that with their help, we can finish raising the funds we need to complete our fit out phase and get the building fully operational in time for our programme of amazing events later in 2018’

Katie Town, Executive Director

The theatre still needs to raise £60,000 to complete the fit out and purchase the technical, sound and lighting equipment required. Donations can be made online at theatreroyalwakefield.co.uk or via the box office on 01924 211311
