Eric’s ensure flavour comes first at this year’s Pontefract Liquorice Festival

Ossett butchers Eric’s are returning to their regional roots at this year’s Pontefract Liquorice Festival by developing a liquorice flavoured pork pie and, for the first time ever, sausage roll.

The liquorice pork pie and sausage rolls were carefully developed at Eric’s and will be available at Pickerings of Pontefract at the festival 10.00 to 16.00 July 8th.

Tom Martin, MD of Eric’s, said, “We’ve worked very hard to get the careful blend of liquorice within our traditional Yorkshire pies and due to its popularity at last year’s event, we’ve developed a bespoke liquorice sausage roll this year as well.

“With a careful development process, we created a small batch test to ensure the flavour was just right. Unlike many other modern manufacturers who take the scientific root, we always put flavour first and put our taste buds to the test.

“Thanks to the Yorkshire bramble and liquorice jelly from Bracken Hill Fine Foods, we’ve struck the perfect balance of flavour, ensuring the liquorice isn’t too overpowering,” Tom added.

“We’ve previously experimented with flavours before and created a unique rhubarb flavoured pie for Yorkshire Day. We’re very excited to be experimenting again and hope that people head down to Pontefract and get in the celebratory spirit,” he added.

Pontefract Liquorice Festival, held each July, celebrates the town’s unique historic links with the flavoursome plant in a sweet-themed day of fun for all the family.

Visitors can expect to see a tempting array of liquorice food, drink and craft stalls at the colourful street market along with musicians, street entertainers and fairground rides.
