Britcon Engineer Receives Royal Award

Lauren Hobbs, a Managing Engineer at Britcon, has received a special award from HRH Princess Royal for a special achievement with City & Guilds training.
The Worshipful Company of Paviors has recognised Lauren for her ‘outstanding accomplishments and strong work ethic through learning on the City & Guilds qualification in Streetworks, Excavation and Reinstatement’ in a supervisory role.

The certificate was presented to Lauren by HRH Princess Royal at St James’ Palace earlier this month.

Lauren, who has worked at Britcon for 18 months, was nominated for the award by Wise Training because of proactivity beyond the normal candidate duties and support to less gifted learners to progress through their assessments.

Paul Railton, Managing Director at Wise Training, said:

“Lauren successfully finished the NRSWA* (New Roads & Street Works Act) supervisor course, completing all the modules to a high standard. The supervisor role came very naturally to her and she soon became a valuable member of the group.

“Her use of English benefited the operative’s capacity to understand difficult terminology. It was impressive how the operatives soon began to comprehend the subject in a more enlightened way following her lead.

“In this typically male environment she helped to develop the ethos of the group into a positive learning experience for operatives of all levels of ability.   Lauren has a natural capacity to understand how lateral thinking can be applied in the working environment to enhance learning.”

Paul Clarkson, Managing Director at Britcon commented:

“We are immensely proud of Lauren and this wonderful achievement.  As a highly responsible company with a strong track record in training and safety standards, we actively engage our team with further education and training wherever possible, not just for the benefit of our clients but also for individual career development.  Lauren is an extremely valued member of the Britcon team and we applaud her for this achievement which only recognises 14 out of over 2 million applicants.”

In addition to their royal award, Britcon were crowned ‘Highly Commended’ in the SME of the Year category at the recent Construction Excellence Awards.
