Boosting expertise at Backstage Academy

2018 has seen Backstage Academy further strengthening its expertise both in live events industry education and business support.

Jack Scarr and Gabriel Woodger have both joined the team at the UK’s leading live events university centre based at Production Park in South Kirkby, West Yorkshire in recent months. Gabriel has been appointed as Live Events Production Lecturer while for Jack the job of Marketing Manager is a role made in heaven.

“I couldn’t have asked for anything better,” enthused Jack who joins Backstage Academy with marketing experience in education and events most recently with Bradford College Group where he was responsible for the marketing for apprenticeship provider City Training Services.

“Music is my passion first and foremost, playing it and attending festivals. I didn’t know a place like Backstage Academy existed and the role is perfect for me both in terms of my interests and career aspirations.”

Previously Head of Creative Services with Cox Automotive UK, Gabriel joins the Backstage team as an experienced events and production manager. With a proven track record in creating high quality and effective solutions across a broad range of media, Gabriel has been responsible for designing and managing the sound, lights, video and set building for a range of conferences, festivals, gigs and trade shows.

He commented: “Having worked for many years in the events industry, this was an opportunity to teach the next generation. The links with the live industry, the equipment and facilities available at Backstage Academy makes it a great place to work.”

Gabriel and Jack were welcomed to Backstage Academy by Managing Director Glen Rowe. He said: “Jack and Gabriel join us at an exciting point in the academy’s development as we make our way through the Taught Degree Awarding Powers process to enable us to become the UK’s first independent live events touring university.

“Gabriel’s strengths fall in creative design and his appointment enhances the technical capabilities of Backstage Academy as it looks to welcome more and more student’s year on year on our journey to independence while Jack’s education and events marketing skills will be extremely valuable in terms of helping to secure our success in this new era.”
